Danville is an independent city of more than 50,000 residents located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Piedmont region of Virginia. Our central location is within a days drive to more than two thirds of the United States population.

At approximately 500 feet above sea level and protected from harsh weather extremes by the nearby mountains, Danville enjoys four distinct seasons.

Our average annual temperature is 58.1 degrees, with the January average at 37.5 degrees and the July average at 77.8 degrees. The Dan River flows though the city dividing the 43.9 square miles within the city limits. An average of 1.6 billion gallons of water per day make the journey from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Albemarle Sound.

Our city also receives an average of 42.7 inches of precipitation and 8.9 inches of snow each year. The City of Danville and surrounding area offers over 200 places of worship of various denominations.
