America's First Museum showcases cultural and natural history of South Carolina's coastal region. Enjoy the rich variety of exhibited objects ranging from ancient fossils and an enormous whale skeleton, to Civil War artifacts and historic Charleston silver. Be sure to explore 'Kidstory', an exciting, new hands-on exhibit that teaches children of all ages the rich cultural and natural history bringing history to life for youngsters. Interactive components and wall-length murals of the Museum's Dill Sanctuary and Heyward-Washington House, as well as other notable Chaleston scenes, captivate children of all ages.

We invite you to explore this rich, varied history at the Museum and its two National Historic Landmark houses as you step back into the 18th century at the Heyward-Washinton House or into the 19th century at he Joseph Manigault House. All are located downtown, in America's Most Historic City.
