Whether history, sports, outdoor activities, shopping, or music is your interest, West Point has it all. Waverley Plantation is one of the most photographed antebellum homes in the country. There are a number of significant Civil War sites in the area, as well.
Consistently ranked by Golf Digest magazine as one of America’s top 100 courses, Old Waverly Golf Club is known as Mississippi’s best golf club. The host of the 1999 US Women’s Open and other major golf tournaments, Old Waverly proves time and again its worth to golf enthusiasts from around the world.
For sports enthusiasts, great Southeastern Conference sports are within a short drive. The outdoorsman will find Clay County, the home of Mossy Oak, a haven for hunting and fishing. Gift and antique shops abound.
Clay County was home to blues great Howlin’ Wolf. Here, there is a marker on the Mississippi Blues trail to commemorate his life and contribution to the music world. There is also a Howlin’ Wolf Blues museum full of artifacts from blues and rock legends.
During the Labor Day holiday, West Point has a little something for everyone. Festivities include the Howlin' Wolf Memorial Blues Festival, the Prairie Arts Festival, an antique car show, a 5K run, and much more.
