Tallahassee/Leon County Tourist Dev. Council
Nearer to Atlanta than Miami, Tallahassee County is "The Other Florida" in attitude, topography, climate and lifestyle. Tallahassee hosts the new and old state capitol buildings, with tours of both. Nearby visitors can see America's largest concentration of plantations--300,000 acres, 71 plantations-- between Tallahassee and Thomasville, Georgia, just 28 miles away. Contact the Tallahassee Area Convention & Visitors Bureau 800-628-2866 to receive a complimentary copy of the Southern Manors & More self-guided plantation tour brochure.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find sink holes, plenty of fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities; and Wakulla Springs State Park, one of the world's deepest freshwater springs featuring river boat tours where you'll probably spot a gator or two. Impressive museums and archaeological sites are prominent attractions. Make sure to sample the famous Apalachicola Bay Oysters and local Blue Crab in the region's restaurants, and taste the home made sausage at Bradley's 1927 Country Store.
